Cette année, le conférencier invité est monsieur Stephen Lewis (Envoyé special du Secrétaire général des Nations Unies pour le VIH/SIDA en Afrique). S’alignant sur le Congrès, le Comité du programme de la S.H.C. a choisi de placer la réunion annuelle 2006 de la Société sous le thème La ville : Perspectives mondiales; pour débattre de ce sujet, il a invité des historiens de toutes specialités. 2. FACILITATORS The positions of chair and commentator have been combined into that of "Facilitator," who will introduce the panelists, spend a maximum of five minutes drawing out the main themes and issues after their presentations, and help to stimulate discussion with the audience. 3. NEW FORMAT - "FORUM" A block of nine sessions has been designed to take advantage of the electronic pre-distribution. In these sessions, those attending will be expected to have read the papers, facilitators will open with a ten-minute commentary, panelists will have only five minutes to present their papers, and the remainder of the time will be devoted to discussion. 4. TIGHT TIME LIMITS To ensure the maximum time for discussion, independent timekeepers will be appointed to each session to make sure that the following time limits are strictly maintained: - 15 minutes for regular paper presentations
- 10 minutes for roundtable presentations
- 5 minutes for facilitators' comments in regular sessions and roundtables
- 10 minutes for facilitators' comments in Forums
- 5 minutes for paper presentations in Forums

Il présentera les panélistes, résumera en moins de cinq minutes les grandes questions qu’ils auront soulevées dans leurs présentations et animera la discussion entre les conférenciers et le public. 3. «LE FORUM», UNE NOUVELLE FORMULE Pour tirer profit de la prédistribution électronique, nous avons organisé une série de neuf séances spéciales qui se dérouleront comme suit : le facilitateur ouvrira la séance par un commentaire d’une dizaine de minutes; chaque panéliste disposera ensuite de cinq minutes pour présenter son point de vue; le reste de la séance sera consacrée à la discussion entre les panélistes et les auditeurs, qui devront avoir lu préalablement les textes intégraux des panélistes. 4. DES LIMITES DE TEMPS STRICTES Afin de laisser le plus de temps possible à la discussion, des chronométreurs indépendents assisteront aux séances afin de faire rigoureusement respecter l’horaire suivant : - 15 minutes allouées aux communications régulières.
- 10 minutes allouées aux présentations de tables rondes.
- 5 minutes allouées aux commentaires du facilitateur, qu’il s’agisse de séances régulières ou de tables rondes.
