2012 PUBLIC HISTORY PRIZE

The Canadian Committee on Public History invites nominations for the 2nd annual Public History Prize, to be awarded at the Annual Meeting of the Canadian Historical Association in Waterloo. The award will recognize work that achieves high standards of original research, scholarship, and presentation; brings an innovative public history contribution to its audience; and serves as a model for future work, advancing the field of public history in Canada. Nominations are encouraged on the nature and evolution of public history; the workings of memory, commemoration, and their application in public life; archival practice and policy; museum studies; and the presence of historical events and themes in society.

Works in public history completed in 2011 are eligible for consideration and may include: books (monographs, edited collections of essays, or published works of comparable scope); exhibitions and/or exhibition catalogues; documentary films; web sites; and other public history products representing scholarship in the field of public history. Works beyond the field of Canadian History are welcome. All residents of Canada, or Canadian citizens living outside Canada, are eligible. The prize may be awarded to individuals or to groups of researchers where the principal researcher is a Canadian resident or citizen.

The deadline for receipt of nominations is 15 March 2012. Please send three (3) copies of the original work (or a portfolio conveying the content, presentation, and audience) to:
