Winner 2011 Clio Achievement Prize - Quebec

The CHA is proud to announce that the winner of the 2011 Achievement Award, Clio Prize for British Columbia is Robert A.J. MacDonald.

The Clio prizes are awared to to meritorious publications or for exceptional contributions by individuals or organizations to regional history.

The year 2011 marks the 30th anniversary of the publication of Histoire de la Gaspésie, the first book published in the series on regional histories of Quebec by the Institut québécois de recherche sur la culture. This venture, launched in the early 1980s in order to produce a summary of each of the 23 historic regions of Quebec, now has 20 of these syntheses to its credit, the most recent (2009) on the Lanaudière region. By next year, the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS), now in charge of this project, plans to publish two of the three volumes left to be completed, namely those concerning the region of the Heart of Quebec and Montreal.

While promoting inter-regional comparisons, the books in the series provide researchers, historians, geographers, sociologists, both in Canada and in Quebec, an invaluable amount of information; in fact, they have become essential references for anyone interested in any regions of Quebec. We should also mention that they have won a certain success among the general public interested in understanding its immediate living environment.

For all these reasons, the Canadian Historical Association has chosen to award a certificate of merit to  the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) to highlight the richness of this impressive collection quite unique in Canada. This award is a tangible token of appreciation to all researchers who contributed to this effort for the last 30 years.
