Letter to Prime Minister Charest on Bill 78  June 18,  2012

The Honorable Jean Charest
Prime Minister of Quebec
Édifice Honoré-Mercier,
3rd Floor
835, boul. René-Lévesque Est
Québec (Québec)  G1A 1B4

Dear Prime Minister,

The members of the Canadian Historical Association (CHA) adopted the following motion at their annual meeting in Waterloo on May 27th:

The CHA is very concerned by the impact that Bill 78 could have on the right of expression and freedom of association.

The CHA represents the historical community in Canada. It has over 1,000 members, a quarter of whom are in Quebec.

As historians, CHA members are familiar with the history of institutions and democratic processes in Canada and in Quebec, and they worry about the potential negative impacts of Bill 78 on the right of expression and the right of association.

Sincerely,

Co-Chairs of the CHA Advocacy Committee,

Yves Frenette     Barbara Lorenzkowski
